Happy Summer 2025!

Hope you are enjoying the weather – the heat, the cold, the wet, the ‘too dry’, the wind, the lack of breeze! The weather always gives us something to talk about! All we can do is accept the weather we are getting (and going to get) and dress accordingly.

I also hope that you are enjoying church – the small congregation, the ‘too big’ a congregation, the noisy young people, the high average age, the too traditional, ‘that’ modern hymn etc. I hope that church always gives you something to talk about…  Just like the weather.

The more churches I visit across the Synod, I sometimes hear people say that church isn’t quite what they think it should be… but then I always get to hear amazing stories of what church is! Very often small churches doing amazing things.

Of course, the difference between the weather and the church is… one is a thing, and the other is a group of people.

What a privilege it has been so far for me to meet the church in the South Western Synod.

The weather may change, and be changeable – and the same is true for the church. But the church is an experience for everyone, and so is the church. The church is a localised experience of the presence of God.

We may be small, large, modern, traditional and so much more. But every church is there to be the body of Christ in that place, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

I look forward to seeing more of these bodies of Christ as I get around the Synod more.

Oh, and….

Do you get the Synod e-letter? It’s our regular newsletter that we can send out to you. If you’d like to receive it, you can subscribe here.

Are you on Facebook? Or, is your church on Facebook? You can like our Synod Facebook page and then share our posts on your church Facebook page. Or just follow us for some extra items that might not be on the web site or in the e-letter.

Finally, yes… the website is being updated! Slowly but surely!

God bless,

David
