Financing your building work
Government VAT Grant Scheme.
Listed churches can effectively reclaim VAT on eligible repairs through the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme. In order to be considered for a grant, all churches must be Listed, be solely or principally used for public religious worship and must hold at least 6 public religious services per annum. The works must be repair or maintenance of the fabric, repairs to certain fixtures, and associated professional fees. The minimum value for each application is £1,000 excluding VAT. The LPWGS website points to list of Eligible Expenditure and if the works you intend to claim do not appear on this list, or you would like further clarification on any aspect of the scheme, you can contact the LPW Helpline on 0845 601 5945.
